Spanish revival-style actor Clint Eastwood, called home during his stint as mayor of California, is ready for its next owner.
The century-old Carmel-by-the-Sea estate, where Eastwood, 94, lived while mayor of the Monterey County seaside town from 1986 to 1988, is asking $21 million, the Wall Street Journal first reported.
The current owner, retired octogenarian investor Frederick O’Such, bought the property from an Eastwood-related trust for about $2.25 million in 1996, according to the Journal.
“My family has loved living and entertaining at this iconic property for nearly three decades,” O’Such said in a statement about his time at the address, which he extensively renovated shortly after closing. “Soon after we bought the house, we remodeled the interior spaces, adding in an Arts and Crafts style by installing mahogany wood finishes, cherry wood floors, and other elements that were interesting to me. It is time for the next owner to enjoy this historic home and share it with their friends and family for years to come.”
Built in 1924, the residence, which is officially called Las Ondas, is a block from Carmel Beach and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Today, it offers nearly 4,500 square meters of interior living space spread over three floors. There are a total of four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and one half bathroom.
There is also a formal dining room, a living room – both of which feature gas fireplaces – a media room, temperature-controlled wine room, two laundry rooms and a Craftsman-style kitchen with built-in seating, Thermador appliances and Subzero and a tin-tiled ceiling. There are double master bedrooms, each with a bathroom, one of which has a steam shower, claw foot tub, private balcony and another gas fireplace.
As for the outdoor space, there are multiple decks with ocean views, a landscaped courtyard and gated access to a boardwalk that leads to the beach.
The stone house is built of Carmel stone, which is topped with a clay tile roof.
Elsewhere on the 11,000-square-foot lot is a two-car garage.
